Equestrians, the time has come.
ORBIS started from a point of frustration with riding clothes, but it exists in a space of hope for the future and the belief that it each of us play a part in making the world better. I know, to some people it sounds cringe, but it is true.
While we cannot solve all the world's problems, we can address the glaring deficiencies in our sector. The textile industry is a significant contributor to global pollution and climate change, largely because of the volume of clothing produced each year. The World Bank estimates the sector accounts for 2 to 8 percent of global carbon emissions. Production also uses (and sometimes pollutes) large amounts of water, with the clothing and textile industry consuming around 215 trillion liters a year. Most of what is made is discarded rather than reused, and 87 percent of the total fiber used for clothing is incinerated or sent to landfill. On top of that, less than 1 percent of the material used to make clothing is recycled into new clothing.
